Well put

I was just listening to an English reporter who covers the Middle East. He was talking about the seizure by Iran of l5 British sailors in the Persian Gulf today and interpreted this development as a kind of tit-for-tat thing--the US seized some Iranian diplomats in or near the Kurdish region recently, and so this snatch of the sailors is payback. The reporter said, "You are the Big Satan, and we(British)are the Little Satan, but we're all together in the same Satan basket, one might say."

I think that sums up the US-British situation in the Middle East pretty well at the moment.

Wonder how this is going to affect the Brits plan to withdraw? Any affect at all?

i think they're GONE out of Basra, or at least seriously downsized, come what may. No one quite knew who these hostage-takers were and whom or what they represent...we'll have to follow the story over the next few days.

hmmm where is thatcher when you need her too. i know she wouldn't deal with them. they need a little more dogged determination to fix their road map for peace in the middle east their map needs inprovement from 1919.

I wonder if this is the reason Ahmadinejad cancelled his trip to the UN. Although I'm sure the "VISA" complaint is valid, the timing seems too concidential.

I heard the visa line, too--he said he didn't get his visa in time to take his flight to new york. what, he flies commercial, or something? the president of iran?!

This is getting worrisome, though. Apparently this operation anticipates "illegal" sanctions about to be levied in connection with the nuclear program...their position is, if you play hardball, so will we. Fair enough, I guess, but modern, respectable states, which they repeatedly claim they are, don't seize hostages

The first thought that popped into my head is hopefully the Iranian people will vote him out of office. I've read he is not popular with the younger generation and they make up over half of the population.
